Clarence Vitopil

Clarence Joseph Vitopil, 90, went to be with His Heavenly Father Friday morning March 14 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday March 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. John McCaffrey officiating. Entombment will follow at Msgr. Gleissner Mausoleum at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.



Clarence was born in College Station the son of Anton and Janie (Leier) Vitopil. He graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in 1943. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Company B, 135th infantry division during WWII and was promoted to platoon Sergeant.
In addition to various campaign ribbons, Clarence earned the Badge of Courage of all infantrymen and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. After the war, Clarence went to work at Lone Star Gas for 39 years before retiring in 1987.



After retirement he and his wife, Viola, were active volunteers with the Brazos Valley Food Bank and Brazos County Retired Senior Volunteer Program. They both enjoyed fishing and gardening or on the dance floor with friends. He was a honorary member of the St. Joseph’s Ushers Club, American Legion Post 159, and St. Joseph’s Age
Managers.



Clarence is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Louis, Donnie, William “Bill”, Helen Nagy, and Cecyle Howard.



He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Viola (Ondrasek) Vitopil of Bryan; son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Marcie Vitopil of Hilltop Lakes; daughter, Shelley Palmos of Bryan; grandchildren, Amanda Reitmayer and Nicholas Palmos; great-grandchildren, Lauren Elisabeth Reitmayer, Dillon Palmos and Ally Rae Palmos.



Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Vincent De Paul Society.
