June 19, 1972 – April 9, 2014
Mike Barrett, 41, of College Station, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Born June 19, 1972, to Bruce Barrett and Marilyn (Marasko) Barrett in Lockport, La., he graduated from Mandeville High School (Mandeville, La.) in 1990. A resident of the Bryan/College Station area all of his adult life, Mike moved to College Station to attend Texas A&M University, earning his degree in Engineering.
Mike parlayed what began as an undergraduate work-study assignment into a distinguished 23-year career in the TAMU Libraries. From acquisitions to IT consulting, Mike’s career brought him in contact with colleagues of all types who became lifelong friends and supporters. In 2012, he was honored with the highest recognition for a library employee, the Louise Davis Memorial Staff award.
He was a regular fixture at the Village Downtown Café in Bryan for the Friday Night Meet-up and an integral piece of the puzzle at Sweet Eugene’s House of Java for Sunday morning Atheist and Freethinkers Meet-up.
Mike is survived by his mother, Marilyn O’Leary; his father, Bruce Barrett; his sisters, Sara Barrett and Melissa Hodgson; and their loving families.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
