Johnnie Mae "Sugar" Jenkins, 79, of College Station, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the College Station Medical Center. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 7: p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Jones-Washington Mortuary of Bryan. Services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, April 28, at Brazos Valley Community Church of God, with Rev. Joe Wilbert officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Johnnie Mae Evans was born to Mary E. Jackson and Matthew Evans. She was raised by her proud parents, Mary Jackson-Green and Elmore Green Sr. On March 15, 1953, she was united in marriage to Charley “Nick” Jenkins and to that union two children were born, Charlie M. (Jenkins) Marshall and Richard C. Jenkins. She was in the Class of 1954 of E. A. Kemp High School, Bryan. She worked at Bryan ISD and retired after 23 years or more of service. She will be remembered for her smile and caring heart. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and was once a member of B.V.C.C.O.G.
She is survived by her children, her sisters, Elma Lee (Green) Lightfoot, Gladys Nell (Green) Johnson and Susie (Green) Banks, Bobbie (Evans) Cason; her brothers, William Earl Green, Elmo Green Jr., Matthew Evans Jr.; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson; goddaughter, Valerie Jones; special daughter, Dee Young and a host of relatives and friends.
