“Dump” as everyone knew him, died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Hospice Brazos Valley In-Patient facility, he was 77 years old. Funeral services are set for 12 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at Lee Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Floyd Polk Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.
He was born in Iola, Texas to Charlie and Frances Parnell. When he was ten, his family moved to Bryan. He was a hardworking, self-employed mechanic for more than 52 years. If you lived in the east side area of Bryan, you knew Dump or Mr. Parnell the mechanic. He married Margie Ree Houston February 14, 1958 and from this union four children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife in 1971; son, Andrew D. Parnell; brothers, Pinkney, Waymon, Charlie and Jimmy; sisters, Wilma B. King, Mary McKinney, Mabel Fafford, Carrie Ware and Lillian Workman; and mother-in-law, Minnie Clay.
Survivors include his son, Nelson Parnell Jr.; daughters, Carla Parnell, Pamela Davenport, Debra and James Toliver; sister, Vera Robinson; brother, Joe A. Pleasant; special niece, Cassandra Williams; and companion for more than 39 years, Rosetta Davenport; three sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law, Addie Blue Parnell, Thelma & Frankie Jones of Los Angeles, Calif., Velma Clay Franklin and Lloyd of Bryan; 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
