His name is Captain Quackie, and he is the College Station Police Department's unofficial mascot.

The duckling was rescued last week when its mother abandoned it.

Sergeant Janice Kemp found the little duck wandering around the parking lot.

"Last week, a car was backing out of the police department and the little duck was out there just quacking away," Kemp said. "It couldn't get back up with the mother, and I said we're going to have to step in and do a rescue."

That's what she did. Kemp takes the duckling home every night and then to the police department every day.

Captain Quackie gets several visitors during the day and it has even received presents, like a teddy bear and baby blanket.

Kemp plans to release the duckling back into the pond outside the police department when it's old enough to survive on its own.
