A judge has ordered city representatives in Bryan and College Station to meet with a mediator prior to a hearing August 27 over the cities' landfills.

City attorneys are working together to find a mediator, but if they can't agree on one, retired District Court Judge John Delaney will serve in that role.

Bryan has asked for an injunction against College Station preventing them from continuing the bidding process for a new landfill site.

Bryan is accusing College Station of not allowing them to be in on key decisions involving the landfill, and leaving the city open to potential suits by not including Bryan on the contract for the new Twin Oaks landfill.

College Station says Bryan had agreed to let College Station have major control over landfill operations and issues, and that Bryan had not voiced concerns until recently.

In addition to the eventual mediation, the city councils will meet Monday, August 25 in an effort to avoid a court battle.

The BVSMA landfill is the ultimate in the 'not in my backyard' syndrome: we'll put it in YOUR backyard. I know Bryan is upset about the way they have been treated thus far...but it does not come close to how Grimes County residents have been treated. Nobody asked us if we wanted THEIR landfill in OUR county!
