Dr. Betty Creamer – Head of School

Dr. Betty Creamer grew up in South Carolina where she earned a Classical high school diploma with honors; served as newspaper editor; and received honors including multiple state Debate Team awards, the DAR Citizenship award, and All State Band (bassoon).
At Winthrop University, Dr. Creamer majored in Speech-Drama and received her degree with teaching credentials plus edited the school Handbook and received the Winthrop Theatre Grand Master’s Award.
Dr. Creamer comes to St. Michael’s Episcopal School after more than 30 years of work in education (teaching and administration in K-12 schools, college, university and seminary faculty positions) plus extensive youth ministry work (parish, diocese, and national church) in the Episcopal Church. Her career also includes international work in South Korea and Japan plus extensive travel and short-term mission projects with young people. During these years, she earned a Master’s Degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry Degree (administration) from New York Theological Seminary and did additional studies at Queen’s College, Oxford University.
As Dr. Creamer begins her work at St. Michael’s, she says, “I find work with Episcopal Schools to be the most rewarding as well as often the most challenging; and I am delighted to be joining the St. Michael’s community where I have found a most committed Board of Trustees and Faculty/Staff. I’ve met a few students and parents, and each of them affirms my impression of a wonderful school with fabulous students, parents, faculty/staff and larger community. I look forward to our work and growth together.”
