It does not take much to go green. There are simple tasks you can do to help out the environment, and here at KBTX, we have got something to help you go green.

Tuesday and Wednesday Bob French along with the Mayors from Bryan & College Station will be bagging groceries and handing out canvas shopping bags. For every bag KBTX gives out, HEB will match it with one of theirs. If you want to be green, or just see Bob and the Mayors bagging, head to the Bryan HEB on Villa Maria Tuesday from 5 to 6 in the evening. If you cannot make it to Bryan location, Bob will also be making a stop in College Station on Wednesday from 5 p.m. 6 p.m.

The give away is part of a joint sponsorship between the two cities and KBTX Media.

HEB is a wonderful place to shop. The prices are good. No sense in shopping at Walmart where you are treated like garbage. HEB provides outstanding customer service.

I use the canvas bags and I love them. They are easier to carry, and sturdier. I wonder if LW washes all those cans before placing all that bacteria in her pantry. That sounded like a lame excuse to me. BTW, I love shopping at HEB. The prices are pennies more, but the customer service and variety more than makes up for it. And if you need a pharmacy, theirs is the best. You wont be treated like s@*# like the bigger guy in town treat you.

If the cities want to be "greener" Why doesn't Bryan start a good recycling system. I'd put my plastic and paper in a container to be picked up each week. We are so behind around here its pitiful. It may cost more then it saves but you have to start somewhere and the city waste money on worse stuff then that. My 2 cents..

Perhaps the mayors might make the "cities" greener if they had the traffic lights syncronized. Smooth traffic flow makes for less fuel consumption. Having to stop at most intersections with traffic lights increases fuel consumption.

Is this really the best use of our tax money, to give out canvas grocery bags?

I am glad more people will finally be using reusable bags, I have been using them for over a year and they're the best!

Maybe we ought to do like New York and tax people a nickle a bag for using the plastic throwaways. I'm not worried about global warming; I just hate seeing them littering the landscape everywhere. Once they blow away, they can hang up in trees and along roadways for YEARS.

You just wash them when needed which is not the often. Great way to cut down on garbage. There are many reasons not to do something and generally only a few to do something. Green is good for us but essential for our kids and their kids. Their future is in our hands.

I'm glad to see reusable bags encouraged. Americans are very wasteful. Even if you don't buy into global warming, we all could be less wasteful. As for washing the bags after each use, I see it like any other bag (kids backpacks, purses, etc.). I wash/clean them up when they get soiled.

YAY! This is a great idea. I've been using reusable bags for my groceries for years. Very happy to see that this is catching on.

W e l l, I like the color green as much as anyone, but I don't think that washing a canvas bag after every use to get rid of the bacteria that was picked up on thelast trip would be very green to the water supply, enery supply, creeks.... Or do they clean all the cans, boxes, etc.... before leaving them on the shelves...
