The City of Huntsville has named an interim Chief of Police as it searches for a permanent replacement for outgoing Director of Public Safety Jean Sanders.

Chief Sanders tendered her resignation recently, and her last day will be Friday, December 12. The city chose consulting firm Texas First Group, to help find a replacement.

"We are bringing in an interim chief from the same company we utilized recently for the Interim Public Works Director position - Texas First Group. The Interim Chief will be Allwin Barrow Jr. of Humble, Texas," said Baine. "Mr. Barrow has an extensive experience as a police chief. He was the Police Chief in Kerrville, retired as the Police Chief of Waxahachie, and has served as an interim chief in five other Texas cities. It is our intention to use his expertise while we search for the best applicant. I expect him here next week for a couple days to overlap with our departing Director of Public Safety."

Maybe the police chief from Huntsville and the Bryan Police Chief can trade places.

Hooterville PD has always cracked me up. Their PD consists primarily of young college kids that just love to play with their sirens at 3:00AM. With them, EVERYTHING is a dire emergency. Where they came up with the term "Director of Public Safety" for police chief is any one's guess. Hooterville PD has a very long history of giving their officers funny sounding titles that would lead the uninformed to believe they are some sort of a highly trained specialist. They must have heard someone referred to as "Director of Public Safety" on an episode of COPS. A few years back they started putting officers on bikes, just like the real police in the big cities. All they need now is someone to head their Mass Murder/Serial Killer/School Crosswalk Task Force and they will be in business lol. I have been told that Ms. Sanders is a very nice person. If the truth be known, she probably got tired of the childish games the city plays and opted for another job where her talents can be utilized.

It's a real shame that Chief Sanders is leaving. Every cop and fireman in Huntsville knows why their public safety director is leaving. It's really sad that they keep one person on as a city employee, when he makes every ones life miserable. Now the city council has made him an asst. city manager! This is why so many police officers have quit and the City of Huntsville has now lost a great police chief. This city is going down the toilet with special thanks to a couple of city councilmen and a "good ole' boy system that won't let this town grow up and prosper. The city and all their glory keep their thumb on every little detail and spend money on stupid stuff like a "Wynne Home" instead of getting more officers on the street and increasing the number of paid firemen with the right equipment to protect the city. This city is a dinosaur when it comes to public safety. Seeing is believing, just count how many officer's private vehicle's are at the city service center at 4AM. Thanks a lot!
