Caldwell Police Chief Paul Lilly has been fired.
After spending almost three hours behind closed doors with the chief Tuesday night, the Caldwell city council voted 5-0 to terminate Lilly's employment with the city. He was first offered the opportunity to resign, but did not. City Administrator Billy Clemons says the decision was made because of the council's loss of confidence in the chief.
Dozens of local residents waited outside the council chambers until the vote was taken around 9:30 p.m.
Afterward, a local pastor questioned the council on why the decision was made in private and citizens weren't given the opportunity to speak before the vote was taken.
Lilly was named Chief of Police in Caldwell in April, 2007. Before that he served as a law enforcement consultant and police chief and director of public safety for the Tarrant County Hospital District.
Lilly and three officers were recently reprimanded for responding to a call at the Caldwell High School which is outside the city limits. All four appealed the punishment to the city council, but were denied their appeal by a 5-0 vote.

I lived in Caldwell until the late 80's. I returned to visit my mom one night upon returning from a ballgame. I turned off Highway 21 at the city pool and got to the street where old high school is when a cop claims to have turned his lights on (I'm not blind and there were no lights). I knew something was up when I heard him nearly wake up the dead on his PA system literally screaming at me. THE DUDE PULLED A GUN ON ME!!! He deemed it "necessary" because I didn't pull over immediately. I simply went one street further to find a safe place to pull over on Fox Street at midnight. He said I yielded at a stop sign, which is possible even though 98 percent of people do that in sleepy towns when blue-haired grannies are in bed. For him to pull a gun, though? Oh my God! I would have started laughing had I not feared it was a thug posing as a police officer to possibly rob me at gunpoint. Whoever hired the jerk has horrid judgment so it's good he was fired. Take that, Barney Fife!
I’m sorry, but the Caldwell Police are a joke. Instead of trying to clean up the city and go after the real problems they try to intimidate the young kids. Oh...your truck is to loud lets pull you over and scare the sh.. Out of you, because we can. Oh wait, we know this kids mom so lets let him go and just stick it to the next kid. Come on....the Caldwell Police need to go back and work at Dairy Queen were they belong!!
The Chief has been fired from many jobs and usually for good reason - Google him. You'll see his background.
