Friday March 20 marked the first day of spring for 2009, and parts of Texas are already showing it.
Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brushes are popping up all along Texas highways and splashing fields with brilliant colors.
Some of the largest patches of Bluebonnets have been found in Washington County, near the towns of Brenham, Chappell Hill, and Independence.
A long-standing urban legend states that it is illegal to pick the state flower, but however is untrue.
State officials do warn though that while picking the flower is not illegal, trespassing onto a private property, improperly parking along a highway, or slowing to an unsafe speed in a moving lane of traffic are all against the law.

KBTX, there are many parents who will put there children in a dangerous location for those wild flower photos. Please encourage them to be safe.

PARENTS PLEASE do not put your children in harms way. I took a trip to the Houston zoo yesterday and saw many many families on the side of the road taking pictures as cars are flying by a few feet away. What happens if there is a drunk driver, a tire blows out or little Johnny runs out to the road. PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL. YOUR CHILDREN are more valuable then a few pictures.
