A College Station park has gone to the dogs. And the city couldn't be happier.

Wednesday, the city officially unveiled Univrsity Park, the community's first recreation area designed specifically for dogs. By Thursday, word had spread, and dozens of delighted pet owners were lining up to let their four-footed friends get some excercie.

University Park is located in the 300 block of Park Road. To get to it, you take Tarrow (next to the Hilton) heading north, then turn right on Autumn Circle. The park is located on the left.

The park is 10 acres with a swimming pond. It is divided into two, off-leash areas: one for smalll dogs, the other for large.

Special water fountains include a ground-level spigot for your pet. If they drink too much, there's a burnt orange "TU" fire hydrant.

University park also features walking trails, picnic pavillion and a playground.

The new dog park is fantastic - even better than the one we go to in Austin! However, if your dog is an escape artist like ours, be careful at one end of the pond because there are open spaces at the bottom of the fence that our dog found very quickly. Thanks for putting this great park on our end of town!

to Richard - this park was located here probably because the city of CS already owned the property. Even though many in this town have heart ache over the student population, just remember if it wasn't for the students we wouldnt have College Station.
