Voters in College Station have said yes to a couple of new schools and other improvements for education in the city.
Big changes to the tune of $144 million passed Saturday evening, with 71 percent of voters in favor of the second bond issue in three years by CSISD.
The money will go to a second high school to open in fall of 2012, a new elementary to open fall of 2011, and a transportation facility.
"I'm not sure about the transportation facility just yet, but obviously the facilities that were on this bond election were all very much needs that we have," said Superintendent Eddie Coulson, "and so there won't be a lot of waiting around in terms of designing them and beginning the process of getting them on the ground."
Coulson says it could take a year to design to the new high school, and that the new elementary will follow the design of two pre-existing elementaries.
College Station follows Bryan's recent lead now with the creation of a second high school.
Voters approve of a school property tax increase to make all of the above possible.
In the races for school board in College Station, two new residents will take their place as trustees.
Place 1 will now be held by Paul Dorsett, who defeated Joel Mitchell with 72 percent of the vote.
In a three-person race for Place 2, Carol Barrett pulled in 68 percent of the vote, defeating Desiree Marek and Joel Walker.
