A massive wildfire torched parts of Lee County Thursday afternoon. Estimations of the size of the blaze range from several hundred acres to up to several miles wide.

Volunteer fire departments battled the fire for the better part of the afternoon. Witnesses say several Dime Box ranchers lost pasture land and hay.

Dime Box resident Fred Zwerneman sized up the fire from his vantage point. "I guess probably about 70 acres or so burned off. I don't think there were any houses that burned. But other that that, I think the fire department has pretty well taken care of everything out here right now."

No word yet on what started the wildfire.
