After a little less than a year as Hearne's top cop, Gene Wilganowski has been removed from that position. The Hearne City Council removed him from Police Chief and reassigned him. He will be under City Manager Pee Wee Drake. City officials described it as a "Special Assignment" although they wouldn't discuss what Wilganowski's duties would include.
Willganowski had been sent to a rehab clinic in Navasota earlier in the month. At that time city officials said they supported Wilganowski and that he was still Police Chief. Two weeks later that changed. City leaders wouldn't discuss what happened to change their mind.
Lt. Thomas Williams has been named interim police chief. Williams like Wilganowski is a native of Hearne.

To: Anonymous The fact is he was terminated over a whole different issue. It doesn't matter if you are the president, if you break the law you need to be reprimanded.
