For many, beating the heat means leaving home.
Walker County emergency officials say they'll eventually open a heat shelter for residents without air conditioning.
Emergency Services Coordinator Butch Davis received permission from the Walker County Commissioners Court to open the county's Storm Shelter as a "Heat Shelter."
For now, though, you can go to the Walker County Senior Center to cool off.
Once that gets too full, officials will make plans to open the county's Storm Shelter.
