Hearne Police said a Waco man died following a one car accident on Highway 6. Officers said they were called to the scene at 9:24a.m., for a report of a vehicle hitting a utility pole. When they arrived, the driver, 54-year-old Venson Washington was dead.

A front passenger, Annette Perkins, of Waco, was taken by a PHI medical helicopter to St. Joseph Regional Health Center. As of Sunday afternoon, Perkins was listed in stable condition. Two other passengers, also from Waco, Leola Miller and Harold Thomas were both taken to St. Joseph by ambulance and were treated and released.

Police said Washington was headed north, and drove between 75 and 100 yards in the oncoming traffic lane, before suddenly making a sharp left turn, hitting a utility pole, and flipping the Ford Expedition he was driving. The wrecked vehicle landed in the grass along the south bound side of Highway 6, between the cross streets of W. Hall Road and Barton Street.

According to officers, the occupants were returning to Waco from a trip to a Louisiana casino. Because open alcohol containers were found in the vehicle, Police said a blood sample from Washington would be sent for alcohol testing.

Officers said a witness told them the expedition was trying to pass other vehicles.

Power to the north part of Hearne and roughly 1200-1500 homes was knocked out by the accident. All power was restored by 11a.m., authorities said.

I wanna say thanks too all that have kept my family in your prayers. I am asking that you all continue to pray for us. We are praying for the strength and recovery of our loving Annette who is still hospitalized. I do want to add that there is an error in the article. She was NOT the front passenger. She was seated in the back seat behind her cousin who was the driver. Also car was not an expedition it was a Ford Explorer. We are all sadden by this lost and again Thank those that are being sincere and praying for us during the time of sadness.

Yes please speak your mind of Williams, what has he done? Why don't you speak your problems to his face, im sure he would love to know the problem as well. He is a great guy and a hell of a cop. And I agree this isn't the time nor place to talk about and bash cops who put their lives on the line for us. This here my fellow peeps would be a place to pay respect to the family and friends of the gentleman who lost his life in this accident. Show some respect to the family and to all of the fine personell who took part in administering the best of care to all the patients involved.
