A Burleson County standoff ended peacefully Wednesday, but only after deputies fired at the car of a man they said was trying to ram their patrol vehicle.
It happened in the 5100 block of C.R. 378, off of F.M. 2000, northeast of Caldwell.
By afternoon, shell casings littered the Burleson County driveway.
Thomas Starks, the home's owner, surrendered as SWAT team members descended on his property. Authorities said they were called there around 2:30 p.m., by Stark's tenants.
"He had gone to another party that lives on the same property and rammed their trailer possibly more than once then rammed their car and shoved it into the trailer," said Burleson County Sheriff Dale Stroud.
Deputies said they met Stark in his car around 2:45 as he was trying to leave his home. They said Stark was armed with a 9mm pistol.
"Deputies tried to get him to get out and give up, he would not do that and he made a run at them with a car," said Stroud.
Stroud said Stark was backing up to do it again, when deputies shot the front of Stark's car to disable it. According to deputies, Stark made his way into his home, and barricaded himself for half an hour, before eventually surrendering.
"He's having some mental problems and health problems," said Stroud.
Stark was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation, before ending the evening behind bars. As of Wednesday evening, Stark was being held pending the investigation into the incident, and had not yet been charged.

As a close and personal friend of Mr. Starks, no one has the right to judge him. He has been in extreme pain for many years, yes he is having some depression, wouldn't you if you lived in pain 24 hours a day? Three years ago he could walk, not he can't? Tom, man we love you, Bill and Donna and William. As for hard work, he gave up the gun, he is not capable of hurting anyone! He was under mental anguise because of all the pain he has been forced to live with for so many years. To his girls, if you are reading this please know we hold a very special place in our hearts for your dad.

It is so nice to see such a professional sheriff on the tv interview. So many other Texas counties are not as fortunate.
