Pesky critters are clearing out one local apartment complex.
Bed bugs have reportedly infested the Bryan Arms Apartments. The problem is forcing management to vacate all units, leaving current residents scrambling to find new homes.

"That's wrong. I don't know why but they're just kicking everyone out," said Bubba Torres.

Torres has lived at the Bryan Arms Apartments for seven years.
He's on fixed, disability income and the complex fits his budget.

Last week, he and the other tenants received a letter giving them 60 days notice to vacate. The letter says it's because there's an infestation of bed bugs that needs to be treated.

Torres says the notice left him scrambling to find a new home.

"They just didn't give me enough time to find a place to stay," said Torres.

His only option, he says, is to pack up and move in with friends.

"If it wasn't for us and his girlfriend, you know, Bubba would probably be out on the street somewhere. It's not fair. It's not fair at all," said one friend.

The notice to vacate came from Twin City Properties. The company bought the Bryan Arms Apartments about a month ago. Owner Doug Pederson says the bed bug problem is one they inherited and need to treat as soon as possible.

"Bed bugs grow. Bed bugs infestate or they proliferate. Or they'll just take over the complex. It's like a common cold going through kindergarten," says Pederson.

The tenants have until December 31st to leave.
Pederson says he knows the change can be chaotic for some but it's necessary.

"The last thing we want to do is vacate our property. We're not making any money. From the business stand point this is horrific," said Pederson.

Pederson says they're trying to provide some financial help.
Residents who move out by the end of the year and remove all of their belongings will get their full deposit back.

Meantime, Torres says he'll stay with his friends until he saves up enough money to move into his own place again.

Let's hope Pederson's next purchase is the apartments on Jaguar, Monita Way and Toro. The present low-life tenants need to be removed. That area is really bad with slumlords.

jw, you might want to reconsider on upgrading to ceiling fans. They can cool your apartment up to 7 degrees and save you a bundle on your electric bill.
