A Texas man thinks he has the fastest street-legal car in the world, one he calls the “Hemi-Jet.”
Joe Wilkins, of Navasota, is the owner. He took a cherry-red 1939 Ford and put some fire in its belly, literally. Wilkins got a jet engine installed in the trunk of the car, making it capable of going an estimated 300-miles-an-hour.
Wilkins knows he can’t fire up the jet engine on the street, because he’d probably melt some vehicles behind him. He is thinking about a trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, where he might be able to set a land-speed record for the fastest street-legal car.
Wilkins made the changes to the old Ford with the help of a classic car restoration shop in Bryan.

Where is "Boonville" ?
I'm the one the shot video of Larry Larson running 6.934 at 211.59 mph this past weekend at Las Vegas. I am editing the video of us cruising the car as we speak. It will be up next week at www.bangshift.com. The 6.93 pass is on bangshift.com right now. The only think Larry changed from Drag Week, was a new pair of tires because the old ones were wore out. He races and cruises on Hoosier Quicktime DOT legal tires. He's a certifiable badass. We love Larry.
Check out Larry Larson's Chevy II. He just ran a 6.96 @ 211 mph in Vegas in the same car he won HotRod Magazine's DragWeek with. All he changed were the rear tires. Drag Week included driving the car 1000 real street miles across 3 states in just 5 days. It's not a ProStock or ProMod with headlights ...it's a street proven driver runnin in the 6's.
