Thousands of elementary and middle school kids got a treat this morning. Former First Lady Barbara Bush stopped by the George Bush Presidential Library to do some reading.
Schools from all over the state watched along through video conference. Mrs. Bush read from a book that shared stories about all of the presidents, including the current president.
Mrs. Bush also answered questions from the students both in attendance and across the state. One student asked what was the most interesting place the she ever visited as First Lady?
"We went to China, the People's Republic of China where we saw the tombs and those wonderful statues that are traveling. I also went to Petra, wonderful place in Jordan. We went to such places that were so exciting and as a child I never left the United States," answered Mrs. Bush.
The event was a part of the Bush Library's Reading Discovery Distance Learning Program.

Kedren-this upset you? At least she's "doing" something for children; reading books to whatever children show up, and hopefully showing them that reading can be fun & educational. Think about how many "underpriviledged" kids don't have parents reading to them. I volunteered at Rock Prairie Elem while attending A&M as an 'Aggie Buddy', and was assigned a 3rd grader reading on a 1st grade level. How he was passed each year, I don't know? Needless to say, it was a long road b/c his mother never helped. Sorry, but your comments are strange.
Kedren, I feel that this is very noble of you to trash someone for giving back to there community, state and country in a way they feel comfortable doing so, you sound like a person with a chip on your shoulder or panties that maybe to tight, try to loosen those up and give back to your community.
TO Kedren: My child was one of the children sitting listening to Barbara Bush read today. I can assure you that my daughter is not underprivileged. And where have you been? Barbara Bush reads to children all over the country. Why? Because she wants to. And who said their life is going to be any after better after today. Your comments don't make any sense. All it sounds like is your trashing a 80 something year old former first lady for spending quality time with school children. That was all the article was about.
