The superintendent of Caldwell Independent School District has resigned.
Randy Berryhill and the district's board of trustees reached a voluntary exit agreement Monday night.
Berryhill will serve as deputy superintendent until June 15, which will mark his last day with the district.
Details of the voluntary exit agreement were not disclosed by the board.
However, the school board's president Albert Surovik said it was a general consensus to move in a new direction, with new ideas and new visions.
Berryhill has served as superintendent for 10 years.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Janet Cummings will take over the role of superintendent. She's been with the district for several years and also serves as the district's curriculum director.
The board of trustees will meet next Monday to discuss the appointment of an interim superintendent.

I am just wondering why it took CISD 10 years to figure out Berryhill wasn't doing anything. It is interesting that the next in command has filled his shoes... If you are unhappy with the way "things" are done, you need to follow the chain of command. No offense to Cummings.. however what makes you think that things will be different. First..there are many great teachers in Caldwell... and there are several bad eggs.. it is the same problem everywhere. I want to point out that Ms. Chapman at CMS is one of those truly great teachers!!!!! As far as the bad eggs..they are there because the principal keeps them there. THere is one specific teacher that has been a bad egg for many years and when parents complain..she retaliates against the students. She demeans, intimidates and bullies... and apparently she has been the same way for most of her career. There is a good education available in CISD...you just have to wade through the occasional awful teacher!
To getagrip: Guess what? I'm old school, too. That's exactly why I responded to your opinions. The kids should have opportunities, but I believe they have them in front of them. It's up to the kids to try to do the best they can in class and athletics. At least you did say that students and parents should strive to be the best they can be as should the coaches. I do believe no coach is out there to lose. But they need help and support from the athletes and the parents. Yes, you're free to comment, just don't think there are any easy solutions. I would never want to be a coach, especially in this town. (And the problem isn't as much with the students as it is the parents that degrade coaches.) Maybe if some of the parents would stay out of it athletics wouldn't be mediocre. Maybe not, I'm no authority. (Would be interesting to give it a shot!) Peace!
to parent feb 15: your right. the complaints would come in before i started, i'm old school. i would not put up with what today's society accepts. 2 many tree huggers and bleeding hearts 4 me. everyone is not a winner. as i have stated before, i just want the kids to have the opportunity. i never said any idiot could be a teacher/coach...(is that an attempt to call me an idiot?) someone with the proper qualifications should a teacher/coach. i am sure i could do more to contribute, but i felt i was contributing by voicing my opinion(underline). excuse me 4 contributing to this heated debate/blog. evidently you have plenty of time 2 be on the computer as well- you read my comments and responded 2 them! i don't have all the answers, just lots of opinions. you know what they say- an opinion is just like a ..., everyone has one. P.S. one last opinion- i don't think mediocricy is acceptable. i think students & parents should strive to be the best they can be. cms athletics, don't be mediocre!
