New Drinking Rules for Northgate
The Northgate Entertainment District across from A&M has been a party spot for years, and now new rules will make it easier to drink outside the bars. Thursday night the College Station City Council voted to allow bars and restaurants to serve beverages outside with certain conditions.
For the first time since 2005, people will be able enjoy alcoholic beverages outside at Northgate. This will happen once construction is complete and College Main Street is turned into an outdoor patio with tables for dining and drinking. Until 2005, people could consume alcoholic drink outside, but that was stopped because the partying got way out of hand. City officials say this time is going to be a lot different.
When that construction is completed later this year, patrons will be able to consume alcoholic beverages on the sidewalks on University, the promenade and College Main Street in the Northgate Entertainment District. However, alcohol will be prohibited after 9 p.m. on the University Drive sidewalks and at the promenade with exceptions for special events.
