Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Chaos in a Houston Neighborhood
Posted: 2:15 AM May 16, 2012 Reporter: Rucks Russell, KHOU
What started out as a routine traffic stop ended with several suspects facing likely charges of breaking and entering in a south Houston neighborhood.
Police said it all took place in the 13000 block of Canterwell Street early Tuesday evening.
Officers pulled over a car in the driveway of a rundown shack that authorities suspect to be a drug house. That’s when about a half dozen people from the shack fled in all directions.
In the rush to get away, some suspects broke into nearby houses. One of them broke into a van owned by Javier Cordova’s father.
“Dad shot at the guy and unfortunately missed by about four inches,” said Cordova. “And that’s when the cops showed up.”
Police rounded up several suspects including a man found crouching in Deidra Johnson’s backyard.
“One guy was between my house and the neighbor’s house and police told him don’t move,” said Johnson. “They were going to shoot him.”
Police said the driver of the car would be charged with possession of marijuana. Three other suspects were expected to face charges relating to the break-ins.
