Local Woman Arrested for Stealing from Boss

21 checks and $78,202.64 later, James Lock, owner of Collision Research Associates, is trying to find his retirement.

“I put as much money as could into my retirement account but it wasn't going in there,” said Lock.

Police say 47-year old Deborah Yates, of Caldwell, took blank checks, signed by Lock, and filled them out to herself. The scheme allegedly began in August and ended June 1, 2012 when she was arrested at Lock’s office where she worked.

"It's kind of like a woman being raped by a friend,” said Lock.

Lock says Yates was making $24 an hour as an office manager at his business, but living the life of the CEO.

“Carnival Cruise reservations for her and her family,” said Lock.

Lock became suspicious when Yates began making big purchases he says included big screen TVs for her children and a new car that can all be found at her home. While Yates wouldn't come outside to talk to NEWS 3, police tell us she is cooperating with them.

“She did visit with detectives that day. She did turn herself in when she promised to turn herself in,” said Officer Rhonda Seaton, College Station Police Department.

Lock is cooperating with police as well and says his business will survive.

“I've got full confidence that we'll bounce back."

If convicted, she could face between 2 to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. James Lock says he plans to sue her in civil court to try and recover his losses.
