Castillo Sentenced in Fatal Brenham Wreck

Posted: 4:15 PM Jun 28, 2012
Reporter: KBTX Staff

The man driving a vehicle in a crash that killed four Brenham residents in what investigators have called the worst in their city's history, has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Roberto Castillo, an illegal immigrant, was driving a pickup that slammed into a Mustang occupied by two women and two men.

In addition to prison time, Castillo also has to pay a $1,000 fine.

After the crash, Castillo ran from the scene, but was quickly caught.

The wreck happened in August of 2011 near the intersection of Highway 36 and FM 109 and was caught on a convenience store camera across the street.

Washington County District Attorney Bill Parham says after looking at the video they decided Castillo wasn't at fault because the driver of the Mustang had pulled into his path.

There was enough evidence to charge Castillo for leaving the scene of an accident with deadly consequences.
