Funeral Held for Mother Fatally Shot in Baby Kidnapping

HOUSTON – Family members attended the funeral of a young mother who was fatally shot as her baby was kidnapped outside a pediatric center in The Woodlands.

Investigators said Verna McClain, 30, shot Kala Golden-Schuchardt on April 17 outside of the Northwoods Pediatric Center and then abducted the victim’s 3-day-old son, Keegan Schuchardt.

About 500 people attended the service along with Golden-Schuchardt’s family. Her three children, who are 1-week-old, 2-years-old and 4-years-old, did not attend the funeral service.

Golden-Schuchardt was laid to rest at a cemetery in The Woodlands.

Investigators said McClain confessed she had a miscarriage and that she took the baby to try to fool her fiancé.

Her fiancé said he’s standing by her.
