Hundreds Covered by Debris Cloud from Implosion
Many of the people who lined the streets around the Plaza Hotel will never forget the moment the tallest building in town came down. Some had the best seat in the house while others may remember more of what happened moments after the implosion. Many in the crowds lining Texas Avenue weren't even aware of a light wind blowing in from south to north, straight in their direction. Seconds after the Plaza imploded, a huge cloud of debris smothered a crowd of hundreds. If you were just north of the implosion site it was hard to see anything and at one point almost impossible to breathe just after the building crumbled.
"It was cool. I had never seen a building blow up before,” said Leah, a Sonic employee.
"It was great it was great. Just Bam Bam Bam,” said Ken Barnett.
"Pretty cool to watch it go down. It's part of history,” said Keaton Taylor.
History that no matter where you're standing, most won't forget where they were the moment the Plaza Hotel fell.
