Former A&M Football Player Serving Prison Sentence

A former Texas A&M football player has begun serving a sentence behind bars for his role in a hold-up with a teammate.

Brandon Joiner's punishment was three years in prison. He was a freshman at A&M when he and fellow Aggie Yemi Babalola broke into a Callaway Villas apartment in College Station, robbed and assaulted the residents, all over a drug deal.

Joiner had already been sentenced to 10 years probation on an aggravated robbery charge stemming from the incident. Part of that sentence included sporadic, short stints in jail.

The three-year sentence he started serving Wednesday was on a robbery charge from the 2007 incident, and was on hold until he graduated from Arkansas State, the school he went to after A&M.

A Killeen native, Joiner is signed to the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals.

Babalola served part of a five-year sentence before being released from prison.
