Reporter: The Associated Press

HOUSTON - State Rep. Ken Legler, two-term Republican lawmaker from suburban Houston, has died at age 54.

According to a statement issued by his office, the Pasadena lawmaker died Friday of an apparent heart attack. Funeral is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at the Grace Community Church in Houston, with burial in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin pending.

Legler is survived by his wife and their three children. Gov. Rick Perry, a fellow Republican, has ordered flags flown at half-mast through Wednesday afternoon.

The businessman was first elected to the Texas House in 2008. He had announced plans to not seek re-election this year, saying the rigors of campaigning in his newly redrawn district could distract him from his legislative duties.
