ROUND ROCK, Texas -- The A&M Consolidated baseball team lost to Cy Ranch 4-1 Saturday in the Class 5A State Title game at Dell Diamond. Cy Ranch claims their first ever State Baseball Championship.

Cy Ranch scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead but Consol would answer in the bottom half of the inning. Colby Turton's sacrifice fly sent Logan Howell home cutting the Mustang lead to 2-1.

Cy Ranch pushed their lead to 3-1 in the top of the second on a Corbin Martin solo home run to left field. The game would stay that way into the sixth inning.

Martin would strike again this time with a sacrifice fly that scored Dalton Lemoine to give the Mustangs a 4-1 lead. Consol would load the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning but Riley Ferrell popped out to right field to end the threat.

"Unfortuntely we just couldn't get the hits and couldn't come through when we needed to," said Tiger catcher Ben Kennedy. "And we fought, and we fought, but we just couldn't get the hits when we needed to."

The Tigers put two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh.Cy Ranch pitcher Jonathon Whitley threw the ball to second base to try to pick off Ethan Townsend but his throw went into center field. Townsend broke for third base but came back to second. When he broke for third Cody Hamilton tried to go from first to second. Townsend was tagged out for the second out of the inning. Hamilton tired to get back to first base but he was tagged out as well for a game ending double play.

"They battled all the way through. They gave us all we wanted, we knew they would and we just came out on top," said Cy Ranch head coach John Pope.

Tiger pitcher Ford Moore said after the loss, "It's tough going out like this, but we had a great season. Second, you can't be too mad about that."

Consol head coach Chase Mann added, "It's like yesterday, I told them before the game you play from the first pitch to the last pitch and we're just going to keep scrapping and see what we can get and, once again, that's baseball. Sometimes it falls for you and sometimes it kind of hits you right in the face. But we've had a heck of a season. I'm proud of the kids and the way they played and all the fan support and the administration supporting us and we're a lot more fortunate than a lot of other teams in the state."

Tiger senior Colby Turton was able to put things in perspective. "It hurts right now but I'll wake up tomorrow and think about the memories and the road to get here and preseason, the tournaments at the beginning, the tryouts, everything. I'll remember it and that's what memories will stick with me but right now it hurts, it hurts everybody."

A&M Consolidated ends their season at 29-12. Cy Ranch finishes the season 32-8.
