Longtime Local Broadcaster Turbiville Announces Retirement

He's served as WTAW's sports director for 19 years, and Monday morning, Tom Turbiville announced his retirement on air.

Besides hosting morning and afternoon sports shows on Bryan Broadcasting, Turbiville also hosts Bravo Brazos Valley.

Turbiville interviews area veterans for Voices of Veterans' on KBTX and anchors a similar program on KAMU called "Veterans of the Valley."

In addition, Turbiville's passion for sports has placed him on the sidelines of Texas A&M football as a reporter.

Though his on-air career has been rewarding, Turbiville's ready to enter the next phase of his life.

"I'm about to turn 64 years old, and it's time to sort of move on to the next chapter," Turbiville said, "and that next chapter involves family. It involves five grandkids that, for the last eight or nine years, we had to hear about there sporting events dance recitals over the telephone."

Turbiville's last day on air before moving to Nebraska is August 17.
