Camaro Crashes Filled With Fireworks Goes Up in Explosion

A fourth of July night wreck and fire that kept the Central Montgomery County Fire Department and volunteer firefighters from Caney Creek busy could have also seriously injured one of the firefighters.

The accident happened around 9:30, at FM 1314 and Gulf Coast Road near Conroe.

When crews arrived on scene, they found an upside down Camaro that was totally consumed by flames.

The driver, a 23-year-old from Conroe and his passenger who received minor injuries were standing near the front of the vehicle.

As firefighters fought the fire, explosions cased by fireworks inside the car slowed the firefighter's attack on the fire and one heavy object even struck the side of a fire truck near the location where a fireman was working.

Crash investigators say the driver was speeding and failed to negotiate a curve and slide off the road, struck a steel culvert and flipped over.
