College Station is one of the best, but it's not at the top of Rand McNally's competition.

The Best of the Road contest featured six finalists, including College Station. More than 700 cities in the country were competing for the title of "Friendliest City."

In the end, Murray, Kentucky was named the winner at the Destination Marketing Association International's annual conference Tuesday.

"We worked really hard with the City of College Station and area businesses to make the Rogue Riders’ stay in College Station a success,” said Shannon Overby, Executive Director of the Bryan-College Station Convention & Visitors Bureau, in a statement. "Our goal in pursuing this honor was to get publicity for the area, and we were very successful in that aspect."

The Rogue Riders judging team paid a visit to College Station last month.

College Station and the other finalists will be featured on the Travel Channel on July 25 at 7:00 p.m. CT. Rand McNally’s Road Atlas, USA Today, and bestoftheroad.com are among the other media that will note College Station as one of America's friendliest cities.
