Reporter: Associated Press

HEMPSTEAD, Texas - A 23-year-old man will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to capital murder for the fatal shootings of his parents and brother in their Southeast Texas home in March.

Trey Sesler was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole during a court hearing Thursday in Hempstead.

Authorities say before his arrest, Sesler had been studying serial killers and mass shootings like the Columbine attack and had hoped to carry out some other act of public violence.

He was arrested after police found the bodies of his family members at their home in Waller, about 40 miles northwest of Houston.

The Waller County district attorney's office says Sesler's family members indicated Thursday they hope Sesler can get treatment in prison.
