A Bryan woman is on trial on charges she hired a hit man to kill her husband.

Opening statements were given Tuesday in the trial of 54-year-old Nancy Gelber.

She was arrested on December 9th of last year and charged with solicitation to commit capital murder.

The Brazos County Sheriff's Office says Gelber met with an investigator posing as a hit man in a parking lot near the LaSalle Hotel, a short walk from where she lives.

She allegedly offered $60,000 out of a $180,00 life insurance policy she and her husband, Joseph, had.

Investigators say she even gave her wedding ring as a down payment and allegedly told him to kill her husband quickly and make it look like an accident.

Her trial is expected to wrap up Wednesday.

If convicted she faces up to life in prison.
