Congressman Flores On Petraeus Scandal

The Republican congressman who represents our area in Washington is giving his thoughts about the widening David Petraeus scandal. Petraeus resigned his position as director of the CIA on Friday citing an extramarital affair.

The investigation is ongoing, but the effects are already settling in the nation’s capital.

"This whole saga is an unfortunate distraction from what happened in Benghazi with the terrorist attacks where four Americans were killed,” said District 17 Congressman Bill Flores.

H is in Washington D.C. and says the Petraeus scandal is raising a lot of questions.

"The implications are pretty significant here. We've got potentially national security implications; we have potential impact on our troop morale,” said Flores.

House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi disagrees.

“I don't have any reason to think that there would be any national security issues at stake in what has transpired,” said Pelosi.

Pelosi believes the scandal is a personal matter.

"I think that it is really important to note that this was a personal indiscretion as far as we know. Why somebody would be personally discrete is their own problem,” said Pelosi.

Both say they are trying to look ahead at the fiscal cliff and the hearing on the attack in Benghazi while investigators look back at what led to the resignation of the CIA director.
