Kingwood Claims Region II Gymnastics Championships, A&M Consolidated Girls' 2nd, Rudder Boys' 3rd
COLLEGE STATION, TX -- The boys' and girls' gymnastics teams from Kingwood High School wrapped up the Region II Championships Thursday at Tiger Gym at A&M Consolidated High School.
The host Lady Tigers nearly over took Kingwood in the optional competition on the final day, but fell short (1.025).
A&M Consolidated was paced by Maggie Drummond who finished 2nd in the All Around (76.475). Her team-mate Alison Garlick was 3rd (76.35). The girls's All Around champion was Shyanne Foster from Round Rock.
Here are the girls's final results with the top three teams advancing to the State Meet May 4,5,6 at Angelo State University.
Despite Rudder just missing out advancing to state as a team, two Lady Rangers will compete individually.
Madelyn Fletcher placed 4th in All-around. She will compete at state in the Vault, after winning the regional championship. Bars, after tying for 3rd, Floor after finishing 4th and and on the Bars after placing 10th.
Rudder's Hannah Bernal will join Fletcher at state after tying for 3rd in the Vault, and placing 10th on the Bars.
On the boys' side defending State Champion Rudder will get a chance to repeat after a 3rd place finish this week.
Rudder got 5th place finishes by Kenneth Newbold and Taylor Fletcher on the Floor (19.500). On the Pommell, Flether won the event (19.00), while Newbold came in 8th (17.200). On the Rings, Fletcher finished 5th (17.400), Shay Leo 7th (17.000), Newbold and Nicholas Harrison T-9th (16.500). On the Vault, Fletcher finished T-3rd (18.800), Cody White, Newbold, T-7th (18.400). On the Pararell Bars, Fletcher 2nd (18.900), Harrison T-6th (17.900). On the High Bar, Fletcher 2nd (18.100), White T-7th (16.400), Leo 9th (16.000).
The Consolidated Tigers will be represented at the state meet by Ben Guzman. He won the Floor (19.5). Came in 5th on the Pommel Horse (17.900). Finished 2nd on the Rings (18.900). Posted a runner-up finish in the Vault (19.00) and wrapped things up with a 3rd place finish on the Horizonal Bar (17.8).
In the All Around competition Guzman came in 2nd (110.700). Rudder's Taylor Fletcher was 3rd (110.500). The Region II All Around Champion on the boys' side was Campbell Roper (113.900).
