Stripling Named NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The honors continue to roll in for Texas A&M senior pitcher Ross Stripling as Tuesday he was selected National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The Southlake, Texas, native was also honored on Monday as one of Collegiate Baseball’s National Players of the Week in addition to garnering Big 12 Pitcher of the Week accolades after tossing the 11th no-hitter in Texas A&M baseball history during his last outing.

The baseball rarity came on the day Stripling was scheduled to graduate from A&M with his degree in finance. The right-hander baffled the San Diego State hitters all afternoon on Saturday during a 1-0 win, allowing only a fifth-inning walk while striking out seven in his 106-pitch outing.

It was the first no-hitter for a Texas A&M pitcher since Zach Jackson's seven-inning no-hitter against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 14, 2004, and the first nine-inning no-hitter since Matt Blank accomplished the rarity against Texas-Pan American on Feb. 6, 1996.

Stripling and the Aggies are back in action tonight when they host Texas State on Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
