Dittmer Named to Mexican Olympic Team

COLLEGE STATION, TX -- The Texas A&M women’s swimming team tallied another 2012 London Olympic Games participant when sophomore Erica Dittmer was added to the Mexican National Team on Thursday.

Dittmer, from Spring, Texas, joins teammates Rita Medrano and Lili Ibanez, who had previously been named to the their home country’s squad. She will compete in the 200-meter IM in London. At the Mexican Olympic Trials in early May, Dittmer grabbed two wins and two runner-up finishes. Dittmer broke the Mexican national record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.39 and won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.00. She also placed second to Ibanez in the 50 free in 26.35 and was second in the 200 breast in 2:31.86.

At the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Thursday, sophomores Cammile Adams (Cypress, Texas) and Caroline McElhany (Friendswood, Texas) advanced through the 200-meter butterfly prelims and semifinals and will seek to join teammate Breeja Larson on the U.S. Olympic squad with a top two finish in Friday’s final.

Adams, the 2011 and 2012 NCAA runner-up in the race, enters the final as the top seed with a time of 2:08.07 in the semis, while McElhany is ranked seventh with a time of 2:10.78. In the final with the Aggies will be Kathleen Hersey, Teresa Crippen, Kim Vandenberg, Kelsey Floyd, Tanya Krisman and Shannon Draves.
