South Carolina opens fall practice in promising season

Posted: 7:56 PM Aug 3, 2012
Reporter: Associated Press

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier was happy long before his team took the field for their first practice of the fall.

Spurrier also liked what he saw with the Gamecocks' first workout Friday

Star running back Marcus Lattimore was back on the field taking cuts and showing burst of speed after missing the final six games of last year because of torn ligaments in his left knee. There were no questions about who was going to start at quarterback or the off-field behavior of his signal caller.

The Gamecocks are coming off their first 11-win season in program history and remain a legitimate threat to make the Southeastern Conference title game.
