Jones: Garrett could give up play-calling role

Posted: 3:55 PM Jan 22, 2013
Reporter: Associated Press

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is indicating that Jason Garrett will no longer call the plays on offense and says his coach is on board with such a change.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday at Senior Bowl practices in Mobile, Ala., Jones said offensive line coach Bill Callahan could inherit play-calling duties but stopped short of saying a decision had been made.

Garrett kept calling plays after he was promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach when Wade Phillips was fired during the 2010 season. Garrett told The Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star-Telegram he would welcome a switch.

The Cowboys have shuffled the coaching staff after consecutive 8-8 seasons. New defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin replaced Rob Ryan, who was fired.
