Huntsville – Third baseman Kevin Miller’s two-run single started a five-run fourth inning as Sam Houston State came from behind for a 6-3 Southland Conference victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday afternoon at Don Sander Stadium.

The victory upped the No. 22 ranked Bearkats to 32-12 for the season. Taking two-of-three from the Islanders, Sam Houston earned its eighth Southland weekend series victory in eight tries this year. The Bearkats stand in first place in the league with a 19-5 record.

A two-run homer by first baseman Brad Porras and an RBI single by catcher Santiago Ruiz put three on the board for A&M-Corpus Christi in the top of the third inning.

Sam Houston roared back with five runs on five hits and two walks in the bottom of the fourth inning. Third baseman Kevin Miller opened the scoring with a two-run single. Right fielder Greg Olson added an RBI single to right and second baseman Ryan Farney followed up with a two-run single.

Left fielder Luke Plucheck and designated hitter Jake Arrington started the rally with back-to-back one-out hits.

Shortstop Corey Toups added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. The play scored first baseman Ryan O’Hearn who walked.

Sam Houston State plays host to Texas A&M Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
