Rudder baseball drops series opener to Waxahachie

BRYAN, Texas -- The Rudder baseball team lost to Waxahachie 5-4 in game one of a best of three Class 4A bi-district playoff series.

The Indians scored in the first inning on a Ryan Cawthon double that sent David Villarreal home from first base. The Rangers tied game in the third when Oresta Jackson scored from third base when a Cawthon throw to first base got away.

Waxahachie took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a Dillon Yates solo home run to left field. Rudder answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.

The Indians scored the next three runs take a 5-3 lead. Rudder cut the advantage to 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth and had the tying run at third base but could not score. The Rangers had runners at second and third in the seventh inning but again could not get them home.

The series will shift to Waxahachie for game two on Saturday at 3:00pm. If a game three is necessary it will be played 30 minutes after game two.
