SHSU Women's Basketball Signs Point Guard

HUNTSVILLE, TX -- Jasmin Anderson, a 5-7 point guard from Shreveport, La., has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State University and play women's basketball for head coach Brenda Nichols.

Anderson led Loyola College Preparatory School to the Louisiana Class 3A state championship this season. She averaged 10.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as a senior.

"Jasmin will being a strong offensive presence to the Bearkats next season," Nichols said. "With a unique shooter's touch and the ability to creat, she will add to one of the best backcourts in the Southland Conference."

Jasmin looks to major in nursing and physical therapy at Sam Houston State.

The 2011-12 Bearkat women's basketball team rolled up an 18-12 record and won its second consecutive Southland Conference West Division title.

The 18 victories were the most by an SHSU women's team since 1988.

The Bearkats picked up their first post-season berth with an appearance in the 16-team Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI), advancing to the tournament quarterfinals.
