A&M Consolidated tops Tomball 5-2 to advance to regional finals

BRENHAM, Texas -- A&M Consolidated beat Tomball 5-2 Saturday to win their best-of-three series with the Cougars 2-1.

Tomball scored the first two runs of the game and were threatening for more in the third when Seth Holbert entered the game in relief of Tiger starter Austin Ray. Holbert walked a runner, but then got Braeden Holub to bounce into a 5-2-3 double play to get out of the jam. Tomball left 15 runners on base in the game.

Consol evened the game in the third on a two-RBI double from Ben Kennedy.

Riley Ferrell followed with a two-run homer to center to give the Tigers their first lead at 4-2.

A&M Consolidated tacked on an insurance run in the sixth and held off Tomball in the 7th to win 5-2.

Consol head coach Chase Mann said, "We've got some competitors. We just keep competing, keep staying after it, keep grinding and it worked out for us."

Tiger senior Colby Turton added, "It felt great, it felt great to fight for something and it come out our way. It was a good challenge and they put up a great fight. Their fans, our fans, it was a great atmosphere and it felt good to be challenged and win the challenge."

The Tigers advance to face Bryan in the 5A Region II Finals.
