Aggie baseball team plays NCAA Tournament waiting game
OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Texas A&M baseball team is back home tonight after falling to Kansas Friday at the Big 12 Tournament.
The Aggie Athletic program is now done with Big 12 competition.
The school is moving to the Southeastern Conference on July 1, but before that there is still more baseball to be played.
The Aggies run here in Oklahoma City ended earlier then the team had hoped. They were looking for their third straight Big 12 tournament championship. Instead they now turn their attention to the next phase of the post season, the NCAA Tournament.
"As a team, we just have to keep our heads up," said pitcher Ross Stripling. "We go back, we practice, have a good week of practice and play at home this coming week. Hopefully, we earn that. Whoever they send our way, we'll get the scouting report and be ready to play."
Outfielder Tyler Naquin added, "I believe everybody has a short memory in our dugout. We'll just have a good couple days of practice and get ready."
Head coach Rob Childress said, "Throughout the course of the year how you handle failure is ultimately going to determine your success. We have been through it before, it is not something new to us. We did a great job of it in the middle of the year, we are going to do a great job of it this weekend coming up. Nobody has told us we can't go to Omaha and that is what we will be playing for the next two weeks."
The Aggies have a little time to play the waiting game. They will get their post season assignment on Monday.
