BRENHAM, Texas -- The city of Brenham is known for the B's, bluebonnets, baseball and Blue Bell.

Two of those features came together Tuesday for the grand opening of the Texas High School Baseball Museum which will be housed at the Blue Bell Creameries Visitor Center.

The Museum is filled with memorabilia, from jerseys to photos, to newspaper clippings of players ranging from Nolan Ryan to Brenham's own Cecil Cooper and Jon Peters..

Rex Sanders, the executive director of the Texas High School Baseball Association, had been searching for a home for these memorable items.

"For a few years it was housed in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Somewhere around 2000 I went up there and noticed that we had two plaques displayed above the copy machines and that was it. All our other stuff was being housed in one of our coach's garages," added Sanders.

Texas A&M Head Baseball Coach Rob Childress was a guest speaker at the grand opening Tuesday morning.

Blue Bell has donated the space to the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association.

"Brenham has such a rich history of high school baseball and with all the tourist that come to Blue Bell it seemed like it would be great to showcase the High School Baseball Hall of Fame and expose it to everyone who wanted to see it, added Paul Kruse, CEO and President of Blue Bell Creameries.

Retired Brenham High School Baseball Coach Jim Long will serve as a director of the Hall of Fame.
