COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Texas A&M University, Department of Recreational Sports is proud to announce that Texas A&M senior Jennifer Nichols and incoming freshman Miranda Leek have earned two of three available spots on the USA Archery Olympic team. Nichols is a current member of the Department of Recreational Sports’ Archery Club and will be competing in the Olympics for a third time, competing in Bejing in 2008 and Athens in 2004. Leek will be a future Archery Club member beginning in fall 2012, her first semester at Texas A&M University.

Both Nichols and Leek earned their ticket to London with a 218-212 victory over Japan in the semifinals. They will be competing alongside experienced veteran archer Khatuna Lorig. Leek had previously qualified for the London Olympics as an individual competitor at the beginning of June.

Director of Sport Clubs, Keith Joseph, said, “The team consists of three members, and to have two of the three from Texas A&M is very exciting for the Sport Clubs program. Be sure to cheer them on during the Olympic Games!”

The successes of Nichols and Leek adds to the amazing accomplishments that Texas A&M Sport Club athletes have achieved. The 2012 Summer Olympics archery competition will begin Friday July 27, and both Nichols and Leek will be competing in hopes of bringing home a medal for both the USA and Texas A&M. Rec Sports wishes them the best of luck in the Olympics and looks forward to their return to Aggieland.
