CHICAGO,IL --- Texas A&M’s Sean Porter and Damontre Moore were named to the “watch list” for the 2012 Butkus Award, which is given annually to the nation’s best collegiate linebacker.
The Aggie duo ranked 1-2 in the Big 12 Conference in quarterback sacks a year ago with Porter leading the way with an average of .73 per game and Moore right behind with .71 per contest. Porter, from Schertz, Texas, contributed 79 tackles, including 9.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss of yardage, on his way to first-team All-Big 12 honors from the Associated Press. Moore, from Rowlett, Texas, came on strong down the stretch to post 8.5 sacks and team-highs with 17.5 tackles for losses and four forced fumbles.
Porter and Moore will be trying to become the second Aggie to win the award named for former Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus, who is regarded as the best defensive player in football history by NFL Films. Two-time All-American Von Miller, who was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2011, won the Butkus Award as a senior at Texas A&M in 2010
